Track coaches release All-State teams

On Thursday, the Iowa Association of Track Coaches released their All-State Track and Field recipients.
This honors the top two finishers in each class and event at the State meet that took place in May. Elite All-State recipients highlighted the top four performers across all classes at the State meet.
A handful of Hometown Current area athletes received All-State honors.
On the boys’ side, Derek Weisskopf received All-State honors for his second-place performance in the Class 3A discus with a throw of 179 feet and eight inches.
Weisskopf also received Elite All-State honors with the fourth best throw among all classes.
The Williamsburg Sprint Medley Relay of Alex Reese, Clayten Steckly, Braylon Wetjen and Rayce Heitman received All-State honors for their second-place performance in Class 3A with a time of 1:31.97.
On the girls side, two State Champions and a relay team were honored.
HLV’s Ema Roberts won the Class 1A high jump with a jump of five feet seven inches. Roberts also received Elite All-State honors with the second-best mark among all classes.
Roberts, a junior, will look to defend her title next season.
Iowa Valley’s Lydia Kriegel won the Class 1A discus throw with a throw of 135 feet and three inches. Kriegel beat second place by almost three feet and will look to defend her crown next season.
The Williamsburg Sprint Medley team of Makenna Hughes, Taylor Sanchez, Aliea Wetjen and Ava Hocker were honored for their second-place performance with a time of 1:49.29.
The Raiders return the whole quartet in the event next season and will push for gold.
