Track season starts indoors

CEDAR FALLS — English Valleys got out to a fast start during the indoor track season.

The Bears competed at the Dickinson Relays at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls early in the week and at the IATC Indoor in Ames later in the week.

Williamsburg and Iowa Valley were also inside on the track.

On Monday, March 4, Gage Heyne of English Valleys had the top finish for the Bears in the UNI-Dome, placing ninth in the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 32.40 seconds

On Tuesday, March 5, the Bears girls competed in Cedar Falls. Kennedy Axmear led the way with a 12th-place finish in the shot put (35 feet, 2.5 inches).

At the IATC Indoor Thursday, March 7, Heyne proved to be a pacesetter again, placing third in 1A in the mile run in 4:31.81 for English Valleys.

Iowa Valley’s Caleb Haack finished third in the Class 1A high jump (6-foot-1) and was also seventh in the open 200 (23.20 seconds).

The girls ran Friday in Ames. Jenna Yearian placed ninth in the long jump for Williamsburg. Axmear was fourth in the shot put for EV.
