Tripses scores 30 in win for EV

NORTH ENGLISH — Christian Tripses delivered big for English Valleys in a boys’ basketball preliminary-round Class 1A district game Friday night in North English.

Tripses, a freshman, dropped 30 points for the Bears in their 83-58 win over Meskwaki Settlement.

The Bears’ freshman has helped create a nice 1-2-3 scoring punch with sophomores Everett Bender and Kane Axmear.

Axmear scored 16 and Bender added thirteen in the win.

The Bears captured their fourth win of the season, an improvement on last year.

The win advanced the Bears to the first-round of District play Monday against North Mahaska.

Raiders win on senior night

WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg boys got a win on senior night Tuesday over Independence 66-56, their ninth of the season.

The Raiders came out hot, scoring 23 points in the first quarter, and had balanced scoring across the board in the victory.

Six players scored between seven and 14 points.

Rayce Heitman and Grady Wetjen each had 14.

Heitman also notched 15 rebounds.

One more regular season game awaits the Raiders Tuesday at Vinton-Shellsburg.

Area stat leaders

As the regular season in Class 1A fully concluded this week, several players were top five in class statistics.

Montezuma’s junior standout Brady Boulton was fourth in points with 611 (29 per game), first in three-pointers made (90) and also third in steals, with 97.

BGM’s Tucker Wright was fifth in assists, with 138 — which is good for a little over six a game — and was in the top five in steals, with 79.

Iowa Valley’s Caleb Haack led 1A in blocks most of the season and ends the regular season tied for first with 120. Haack also totaled 289 rebounds (third in 1A) in 22 games, so the Tigers’ senior averaged a double-double on the season.
