AMANA — No injuries were reported in a truck-train collision near Amana Dec. 26.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release Thursday that dispatch received a 911 call about 9:02 a.m. reporting a semitruck versus train accident just south of Main Amana on U.S. Highway 151.
Jackson Von Ahsen, 19, of South Amana, was driving a semitractor-trailer owned by Zuber Grain LLC southbound and failed to notice the eastbound train approaching the crossing.
A southbound pickup truck had already stopped at the railroad crossing, the press release said. The railroad warning lights were flashing.
Von Ashen was nearly able to avoid the pickup truck, sideswiping it, but collided with the train.
No one was injured.
The 2007 Kenworth was a total loss and the pickup truck sustained damage. Damage to the train was estimated at $2,000.
Jackson Von Ahsen was cited for failing to stop at an active train crossing.
