Veterans Affairs director retires

GRINNELL — Poweshiek County Veterans Affairs Executive Director Russ Schuck recently announced his retirement, effective March 31.

Schuck has been executive director for eight years, said Veterans Affairs in a news release.

Chris Nolte will assume the position of executive director April 1. Nolte has served as executive director of Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce and director of public relations and development with Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Nolte and his wife, Jean, recently retired to Grinnell after living elsewhere for nearly 22 years. While away, Nolte served as director of the chamber and development corporations in Storm Lake and in Winterset and served for 12 years as director of public relations and development for Madison County Healthcare System.

Nolte was a volunteer coordinator for Everystep Hospice for Madison, Adair and Clarke Counties. He is a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
