GRINNELL — Local veterans organizations have donated to the Grinnell Veterans Monument and Plaza project helping to close the $100,000 fundraising gap.
The Grinnell VFW gave $4,000, including $2,500 that was given to the organization by Clyde French. French passed away in October 2023 and wished that the funds be used for veterans causes within the Grinnell community.
The Grinnell Legion Post 53 gifted the Grinnell Veterans Monument and Plaza project $1,000.
Both organizations have fought for veterans benefits for over 100 years and are looking for new members to continue their mission to be a voice for veterans.
The final push to complete the campaign will continue through the Fourth of July. Public bidding will take place shortly thereafter, and the monument dedication is expected in 2026.
Donations for the Grinnell Veterans Monument Campaign can be mailed to Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation, PO Box 344, Grinnell, IA 50112 or made online at greaterpcf.org. Click the Donate Today button at the top of the page.
