VICTOR — Victor Public Library has been selected as one of 300 libraries to participate in round three of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an American Library Association initiative that provides community engagement and accessibility resources to small and rural libraries to help them better serve people with disabilities.
The competitive award comes with a $10,000 grant that will help the library provide more large print and audio book materials for those that have difficulty reading standard print.
“We are so proud to be chosen again for this amazing opportunity,” said Library Director Tiffany Lynn.
“This third round of funding will provide our library with an additional grant to help us continue to serve our disabled patrons. We were lucky enough to have received funding in the second round to improve accessibility to our restrooms.”
As part of the grant, Victor Public Library staff will take an online course in how to lead conversations, a skill vital to library work today. Staff will then host conversations with residents about the needs of the community and use the grant funds to increase the number of large print and digital audio titles.
The increase in the number of patrons requesting large print materials, which are much more expensive than standard print materials, continues to challenge the library’s budget.
Anyone interested in getting involved or taking part in the conversation should contact Lynn at 319-647-3646 or visit the Victor Public Library for more information.
