GRINNELL — The Village Closet, hosted by UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Public Health, is seeking new and like-new donations through an Amazon Wishlist.
The Village Closet is designed to support expectant mothers, caregivers, grandparents and foster parents in need throughout their pregnancy and/or the first year of a child’s life.
The Amazon Wishlist contains essential items based on community needs. Amazon Wishlist items can be purchased online and are automatically delivered to the Village Closet location.
Individuals interested in personally donated new or like-new items can drop them off at Public Health between 9 a.m. and noon the first Monday of each month. This time frame allows a team member to inspect each item and ensure it is safe and clean for the next family.
“We understand that welcoming a new baby comes with both joy and challenges,” says Brooke Holder, Public Health Manager. “The Village Closet was created to support families during this important time by providing access to essential baby items and new parent supplies — free of charge.”
To access the Village Closet, individuals must schedule an appointment by emailing dm_village_closet@unitypoint.org or calling 641-236-2385, option 3. After an individual calls, a public health nurse will return the phone or email message within three to five business days with follow-up questions to understand the individual’s specific needs and set up the appointment.
“We believe every parent deserves to feel supported and prepared,” said Holder. “This initiative is just one way we’re working to strengthen the health and well-being of our community.”
