Voter registration deadline for June primary is May 20

Voters who wish to vote in the June 4 primary election should register in their county auditors’ offices by May 20.
Voters who have not registered by the deadline may register in their precincts Election Day. To register the day of the election, voters will need to provide proof of identity and proof of residency and will need to sign an oath.
This process will take time, and county auditors encourage voters to register before May 20. Voters who have moved should notify the auditor’s office of address changes by that time as well.
Anyone wanting to vote absentee before Election Day may do so starting May 15 at the county auditor’s office, Monday through Friday during regular office hours.
Voter Registration and Official Absentee Ballot Request forms are available by mail and at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, sos.iowa.gov.
Anyone wanting to vote absentee by mail, must have the Official Absentee Request form completed and submitted to the auditor’s office by 5 p.m. Monday, May 20. After this date, absentee ballots will not be mailed, and individuals will need to vote in the auditor’s office or at their polling location on Election Day.
Poweshiek County
Voting equipment testing for Poweshiek County will begin Tuesday, May 7at 9 a.m. in the conference room, courthouse in Montezuma.
Sample ballots for the Poweshiek County primary election will be published the week of May 13. Sample ballots are on the Poweshiek County Election site: poweshiekcounty.iowa.gov/.
The audit of Poweshiek County voting will begin Thursday, June 6, at 1 p.m. in the boardroom on the main floor of the courthouse in Montezuma.
Pursuant to IAC 721-26.202(3), a representative selected by each of the two political parties whose candidate received the highest number of votes statewide in the preceding general election shall be invited to observe the hand count.
The commissioner shall notify the county chairperson of each political party a minimum of two days before the hand count of the time and place of the hand count.
