Voter registration deadline nears for Lynnville-Sully special election

The voter preregistration deadline is Monday, Aug. 26 for the Sept. 10 Special Election for Lynnville-Sully Community School District.
Voters who have not registered before Election Day may register at their precinct on Election Day.
To register Election Day, a voter will need to provide proof of identity (Photo ID), proof of residency (current address in the precinct) and sign an oath.
This process will take extra time at the polling place so voters are encouraged to preregister.
Registered voters should report any changes of residence to the auditor’s office before Aug. 26.
Anyone wishing to vote absentee before Election Day may do so beginning Aug. 21 at the auditor’s office, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Voter registration forms and official absentee ballot request forms are available by mail or on the internet at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website, sos.iowa.gov/.

Voting equipment testing will begin Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. in the conference room at the Montezuma courthouse.
Ballot information for the Special Election for Lynnville-Sully Community School will be published Aug. 23. A sample ballot is on the Poweshiek County Election website, poweshiekcounty.iowa.gov/
The county will conduct a postelection audit for the Special Election for Lynnville-Sully Community School Thursday, Sept. 12 at 1 p.m. in the boardroom on the main floor of the courthouse.
Pursuant to IAC 721-26.202(3), a representative selected by each of the two political parties whose candidate received the highest number of votes statewide in the preceding general election shall be invited to observe the hand count.
The commissioner shall notify the county chairperson of each political party a minimum of two days before the hand count of the time and place of the hand count.
