Voter registration must be mailed by Oct. 20

Melissa Eilander, Poweshiek County auditor and commissioner of elections, said residents of Poweshiek County who wish to register to vote by mail for the Nov. 4 city and school election must mail voter registration forms no later than Oct. 20.
Mail-in voter registration forms, which are returned by mail, must be postmarked no later than Monday, Oct. 20 to be considered valid for the election, even if they are received in Auditor’s Office after the close of registration.
The completed form can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, P.O. Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171. Mail-in voter registration forms may also be personally delivered to the Auditor’s Office in Montezuma no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 20.
Voters who have already registered in Poweshiek County but need to record a name or address change should update that information before Oct. 20. Anyone who arrives at the polls Election Day must show proof of identity and residency.
Anyone wishing to vote absentee before Election Day may do so beginning Oct. 15 by stopping in the Auditor’s office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
A voter may request a ballot by either completing a State of Iowa Official Absentee Ballot Request Form or by writing on a piece of paper no smaller than 3 by 5 inches the following information: name of voter, voter’s address, address to which the ballot should be sent (if different from voter’s address), voter’s date of birth, voter ID or driver’s license number, date and/or name of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot, the voter’s signature and date of signature.
The completed request should be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, P.O. Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171. The last day the Auditor’s Office can mail out a requested ballot is Oct. 20.
Voter Registration and Official Absentee Ballot Request forms are available by mail from the Auditor’s Office or on the web at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website sos.iowa.gov/.
