BROOKLYN — Ayla Hall scored a game-high 13 points, and Aaliyah Cooper added 10 as the HLV-TC girls’ basketball team defeated BGM 44-32 Friday night.
The winning formula for the Warriors (3-2) this season has been the ability to knock down a few threes and play scrappy defense. That was the case again Friday night.
“Our group this year, that’s kind of how we have to play,” HLV-TC coach Nick Blomme said. “We haven’t shot well for about a week and half, but we shot well enough tonight.”
The Warriors hit six threes on the night, five in the first half.
We’ve got to find a balance, there’s good ones and there’s not,“ Blomme said.
Karagyn Minnaert connected on a basket and made free throw for the Bears to start the game. They led 8-7 at the quarter following a Ryanne VanDee three-pointer.
Another three point play from Shaye Strong, the Bears led 13-11. That would be the last time they led.
Back-to-back threes from Emery Hall started a 16-6 run for Warriors that lasted the rest of the quarter.
The Warriors led 27-19 at the half.
The lead closed to six in the third in the third and remained eight after three.
Both teams were able to force turnovers with pressure.
Ayla Hall scored nine of her 13 points in the second half, racking up several steals along the way.
In the fourth, both teams traded a few baskets, and the score stood at 40-32 with 2:32 remaining.
The Warriors scored the last four points off a Cooper free throw and three-pointer.
“We had a lot of extra-effort plays and loose ball turnovers tonight,” Blomme said. “There’s still a lot we have to get better at, but we’ll take the win and be happy about it.”
Ana Coleman led the Bears in scoring with nine points. Strong added 8.
