VICTOR — The HLV Warriors had themselves a great run in the postseason last year.
They won the conference tournament while not losing a single set, then advanced to the regional semifinal where they fell in four sets to Lynnville-Sully.
This year’s team may look different, but the goals remain high.
"I am very excited about the upcoming season,“ HLV head volleyball coach Kayla Chizek said. ”Our team last year accomplished some huge goals and this year we want to go even father and achieve more.
“This team will look a lot different, but they will still be able to compete at a very high level.”
The Warriors lose some key pieces from last season but have a strong group of seniors this year.
“We have five seniors this year (Ema Roberts, Ayla Hall, Aaliyah Cooper, Reagan Molynuex, and Lily Randall), which will bring a lot of leadership out onto the court,” Chizek said.
Roberts had 351 kills last season, which is 85 more than the next closest player in the SICL.
The other four seniors played for Tri-County last season but join the Warriors as a part of an agreed merger between the two schools.
All four played in every match last season for Tri-County. Randall had 201 kills and Molyneux had 288 assists.
The Warriors hope to build off last year’s success.
“We are currently working really hard in practice trying to fill in some positions we lost from last year’s team,” Chizek said.
“The girls have started off with really great energy and its just a joy to coach them all. I know we are all excited to get the season started."
The Warriors kick off their season Sept. 3 in a tournament at Montezuma.
