Impressive was the Williamsburg boys' soccer team last week as they shutout three opponents to improve their record to 5-1.
The Raiders made it look easy on their home pitch Monday, April 10, crushing Grand View Christian, 10-0.
Senior Braeden Brown recorded his third straight hat trick to power Williamsburg, scoring three goals to go with one assist.
Sophomores Brayson Doehrmann and Christian Sigala added two goals apiece for the Raiders, and Saul Martinez and Mason Eggelson each chipped in one. Eggelson also contributed four assists.
Williamsburg goalkeepers Logan Rethwisch and Landon Schott kept the Thunder from scoring with Rethwisch, who played 60 of the 80 minutes, collecting three saves.
A second-half goal by Brown broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Raiders to a 1-0 win over Center Point-Urbana Tuesday, April 11, at Williamsburg.
It was Brown's team-leading 11th goal of the season and all they needed, thanks to another stellar defensive effort at goalkeeper by Rethwisch, who recorded nine saves.
Rethwisch was better yet in the Raiders' 1-0 win over Benton Community Friday, April 14, at Van Horne, recording a season-high 12 saves.
That effort combined with Doehrmann's second-half goal spoke the difference.
Williamsburg came into the match ranked fifth in the Class 2A power index, and Benton was No. 13.
