NORTH ENGLISH — English Valleys Community School District has a new Activities Director at the helm. Zach Weilbacher officially began last week.
Although Weilbacher started last week, he has been around all summer, getting to know coaches and getting comfortable in his new position.
Weilbacher graduated from Iowa State University and taught in Ames for a year. He has an administrative degree from Northwestern University.
His most recent position was teaching middle school and coaching basketball and track at Interstate 35 Community School District in Truro.
Multiple factors played into Weilbacher’s decision to accept the Activities Director position at English Valleys.
“It was a great opportunity for me to grow professionally, and I’ve been coaching and being around athletes since I was 18,” Weilbacher said.
“My wife’s family is also from Keota, so it allows us to be closer to family.”
Weilbacher is excited for the opportunity and the future of English Valleys Athletics, he said.
“There’s good tradition in athletics here, but we also need to grow as a department,” Weilbacher said.
“I’m hoping to bring energy being a younger voice with experience. I want to develop full programs and bring consistency for athletes here.”
Weilbacher will also be the boys’ basketball coach for the Bears this upcoming winter.
“I still have a lot to learn, meeting new people, and I’m excited to get things rolling.”
