WILLIAMSBURG — After 10 years with the Williamsburg Police Department, Cody Westfall has been promoted to assistant chief.
The Williamsburg City Council approved the promotion during a regular meeting Monday.
The previous assistant chief, Jason Mochal, became police chief in May after Police Chief Justin Parsons resigned to take a position with the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department.
The city has been searching for an assistant chief since then, and Mochal has increased Westfall’s duties to cover the staff shortage. Westfall was also covering some of the duties of Sgt. Nathan Bardole, who resigned in June.
Westfall has been heading investigations, including those of computer crimes, said Mochal, and he’s learned how to create monthly reports.
“He’s gone above and beyond what I thought he was capable of doing,” Mochal said.
Westfall is the right man for the job, Mochal told the city council.
Mochal said promotions had been conducted privately in the police station in the past, but Mochal thought it was important to conduct them in front of the city council and the public.
Westfall’s family and fellow officers attended the council meeting to watch as Westfall’s wife, Catherine, pinned the new badge to Westfall’s uniform.
