Williamsburg, EV, HLV athletes to compete at Drake Relays

Williamsburg track and field athletes will compete in four events at the 113th Drake Relays this week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The Raider girls qualified their 4 x 100 meter relay team of juniors Elizabeth Stohlmann and Shannon Finn, and sophomores Makenna Hughes and Ailea Wetjen. They will run in Saturday's prelims at 9:30 a.m.

Qualifiers for the Williamsburg boys include junior Derek Weisskopf in the high jump, the 4 x 200 meter relay team of seniors Carson Huedepohl and Owen Douglas and juniors Braylon Wetjen and Kellen Cockrell, and the 4 x 100 relay team of Huedepohl, Wetjen, Douglas and junior Clayten Steckly.

Weisskopf will jump Thursday at 4:30 p.m., the 4x2 team will run in Friday's finals at 1 p.m., and 4x1 team in Saturday's prelims at 9:55 a.m.

English Valleys junior Kennedy Axmear and HLV senior Ema Roberts also will make appearances at the Drake Relays.

Axmear qualified in the discus for the third straight year — she won it two years ago — and Roberts earned a trip in the high jump. Discus finals are 2:30 p.m. Thursday, and high jump finals Friday at 9:30 a.m.
