OSKALOOSA — The Class 3A No. 14 Williamsburg girls cross-country team won the team title in its third straight meet Tuesday at the Oskaloosa Invite in Edmundson Park.
As it was across the state Tuesday, meet temperatures were hot. The course is also known for its hills.
The Raiders had a team score of 57, edging Newton by 11 points. They also beat Newton last week at Grinnell.
Channing Becker finished runner-up in 19:48.9 behind an impressive performance from Albia’s McKenna Montgomery, who conquered the course in 18:21.2.
Edie Axmear was seventh in 21:49.8. The Raiders’ five scoring runners were all top 20.
The Williamsburg boys finished third with a team score of 86.
Colin Reed was 14th in 18:35.
A good sight to see was Nile Busch being integrated back into the varsity lineup. He finished 15th in 18:46.9.
Busch, a senior, was the team’s top runner down the stretch last season and is working his way back following an injury.
Next up for the Raiders is the Solon Invitational Monday, which will have a field of ranked teams and runners on both sides.
Pleasantville Meet
PLEASANTVILLE — The Montezuma boys finished sixth out of 14 scoring teams Monday at Pleasantville Golf and Country Club.
The Braves were led by a 26th-place finish from Dayton Reif in 19:34.63. Cade Lowry was 32nd, also finishing in less than 20 minutes.
The girls’ team finished seventh.
Colo-Nesco Meet
BGM was set to compete at Dakins Lake Park and Campground Thursday, but the meet was postponed to Thursday, Oct. 2 due to weather.
