Williamsburg girls win two team titles
English Valleys have perfect team score at Sigourney

Another week of the cross-country season has come and gone.
Here is a look at results from the week, highlighted by the Williamsburg girls racking up two team titles.
Grinnell Invitational
GRINNELL — The Williamsburg girls took home the team title from the Grinnell Invitational Tuesday, scoring 42 points at Ahrens Recreation Complex in Grinnell.
The Raiders were led by a strong trio of Channing Becker, Maddie Gorsh and Edie Axmear.
Becker nearly ran a personal best, finishing second in 19:20.9. Gorsh finished sixth in 20:44.3 and Axmear ninth in 21:09.4.
The boys finished second with 97 team points and were led by an 11th place finish from Marcus Pirkl. Finn Brummel also ran a season best, and Brevin Zirkel, a personal best.
BGM also competed in Grinnell. Carter Corona was the top performer for the Bears. He ran a season best of 18:46.1 in the boys’ race.
Sigourney Invitational
SIGOURNEY — The English Valleys girls scored a perfect 15 points Tuesday during the Sigourney Invitational at the Sigourney Golf Club.
The Bears finished 2-5-6-8-11. Other front-runners were not part of complete scoring teams.
Anna Luers was runner-up in 20:47.2, Kaylynn Caster was next in 21:42.38.
The first non English Valleys finisher was Belle Plaine’s Elyse Jacobi who came in 16th.
On the boys’ side, English Valleys’ Isaac Frazier was the top finisher, coming in fifth in 17:52.91. Teammates Evan Koehn and Will Luers were ninth and 10th.
HLV-TC’s Allan Scott finished 15th.
Tigerhawk Invitational
COLFAX — BGM’s Astor Brown was a highlight among area cross-county performers at the Tigerhawk Invitational Thursday at Kelly Fields in Colfax. Brown finished 17th in the boys’ race in 18:44.7.
Not far behind was HLV-TC’s Allan Scott, who continues to improve this season, coming in 19th in 18:49.1. Dayton Reif led Montezuma in 19:15.9.
In the girls’ race, Montezuma’s Vivian Cook was the top area finisher.
Benton Invitational
CEDAR RAPIDS — On a hot Saturday morning, the Williamsburg girls grabbed their second team title of the week at the Benton Invitational at Seminole Valley Park.
The Raiders posted a score of 20 team points, going 1-2-3-4 in the race.
The boys finished second behind Vinton-Shellsburg with their top five all finishing in the top 15.
