Williamsburg to send 8 to Drake Relays

Williamsburg boys and girls track each had four entries for the 114th Drake Relays, officials announced Saturday.

The Relays are Thursday, April 25, through Saturday, April 27, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

The Raider girls qualified in the 4 x 100 (14th-best time), 4 x 400 (14th) and sprint medley relay (12th). Individually, Ava Hocker qualified in the 400 (11th).

On the boys side, Derek Weisskopf qualified in three field events - high jump (2nd), discus (7th) and shot put (18th). The Raiders will also compete in the 4 x 100 (22nd).

All athletes had to attain the “Blue Standard” time or distance to qualify for the Relays. The Relays are open to all schools of any size in Iowa.

Other area entries include Ema Roberts of HLV in the high jump (8th); Kennedy Axmear of English Valleys in the shot put (15th) and discus (7th); Lydia Kriegel of Iowa Valley in the discus (21st), and Riley Simmons of Belle Plaine in the discus (18th).
