WILLIAMSBURG — The City of Williamsburg received funding recently to expand the Old Man’s Creek Trail.
The city received $510,382 in regional Transportation Alternative Set-Aside Program funds to expand the existing trail, which currently runs east of the Williamsburg Rec Center to State Street.
This next phase of the project will expand the trail across the Old Man’s Creek.
TAP Funds are awarded through East Central Iowa Council of Governments. The project will be programmed in the 2025-28 Transportation Improvement Program in federal fiscal year 2025.
“This funding allows us to continue the work already started on the trail. We’re excited to be able to expand our outdoor recreation opportunities in Williamsburg,” said Aaron Sandersfeld, Williamsburg city manager, in a press release.
“Based on community and county surveys, residents want expanded trails in our area. It’s one of the many amenities people of all ages look for when choosing where to live,” Sandersfeld said.
Residents will start to see work on the trail in mid-to-late 2025 and into 2026, said Sandersfeld.
