Williamsburg wins in Van Horne

VAN HORNE — Williamsburg won both the boys’ and girls’ titles at the Benton Community Invitational April 11 in Van Horne.

On the boys side, the Raiders topped Center Point-Urbana by three points, 110 to 107. Derek Weisskopf led the way by winning three field events — the shot put, discus and high jump.

The Raiders also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Iowa Valley was sixth and Belle Plaine eighth at the 15-team meet.

The Williamsburg girls were 25 points better than second-place Vinton-Shellsburg. HLV finished sixth, Iowa Valley was ninth and Belle Plaine 11th.

The Raider girls were strong in sprints, winning the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Ailea Wetjen won the 100-meter dash in 13.40 seconds and Keston Spratt won the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 3 inches.
