Caleb Haack was hot as the Tiger boys’ basketball team opened the season with a 24-point win over English Valleys Nov. 28.
Haack knocked down 41 points, pulled in 12 rebounds and blocked five shots as Iowa Valley took control early and came out on top 72-48.
IV held a 14-point halftime lead and then came out really open it up in the third quarter increasing its lead to 27 before settling in to the final 24-point margin. The Tigers shot 57% from the field and were 11-for-24 on three-point attempts.
Friday against Keota proved to be a little tougher match up as the Tigers fell 67-30.
Iowa Valley shot only 23% from the field and a paltry 1 for 16 from 3-point range. The Tigers managed a double digital score in only the third quarter, 12, and scored no fourth-quarter points.
Contributing to the scoring woes was Keota’s dominance on the glass. The Eagles out rebounded IV 52-28, including a 25-8 advantage on the offensive boards.
Haack again led the way with 15 points, 17 boards and three blocks.
