Saturday’s weather led to the cancellation of many area wrestling teams’ competitions.
Due to cancellations, the Iowa Valley, HLV-TC and Belle Plaine boys’ wrestling teams did not compete this week.
Here is a look at how area teams fared in earlier competitions during the week:
Williamsburg Girls Invitational
WILLIAMSBURG — English Valleys, Iowa Valleys and Williamsburg all competed in the field of over 30 teams across all the weightclasses Monday in Williamsburg.
Williamsburg scored a total of 97 match points, Iowa Valley 36 and English Valleys 23.
Williamsburg’s Keston Spratt and English Valleys’ Anna Gorsh both finished runner-up in the competitive field of teams.
Gorsh (120 pounds) fell to Vinton-Shellsburg’s Ellise Weets in the championship match. Spratt fell to West Delaware’s Anna O’Rear at 125.
Williamsburg had five other wrestlers place. Ryleigh Jones (105) placed seventh, Hayden Wade (120) was fifth, Cecelia Gryp (135) and Valerie Altenhofen (140) both placed fourth and Lilly Ness (155) was eighth.
Iowa Valley’s Eva Kriegel placed eighth at 110, and Raelene Hawkins was fourth at 170.
English Valleys Quad
NORTH ENGLISH — The English Valleys boys’ wrestling team went 1-2 at their home dual tournament Tuesday.
Moravia beat the Bears 35-30, Cardinal won 35-24 and the Bears beat Pekin 42-18.
The Bears have nine of 14 weight classes filled this season, so duals can be hard with multiple forfeits.
“The beginning of the season has been pretty up and down as far as results go,” English Valleys coach Ben Edmundson said. “We're seeing a lot of improvement in kids from last year into this year which is nice to see.”
Cael Grove (120 pounds), Teagan Mast (175) and Ben Coffman (190) were all 3-0 on the evening.
The Bears were set to compete at Tri-County, in their second tournament of the season, before it was canceled.
In their previous tournament at Wapello, Cael Grove finished fourth at 120 and Braydon Anderson finished third at 157.
Chariton Duals
CHARITON — The BGM girls’ wrestling team went 1-3 in duals at Chariton Tuesday night.
The Bears defeated Chariton 30-24 in their dual win.
Amiah Lint (115) won both her non-forfeited duals to cap off a 4-0 evening. Taya Sincox (130) and Cheyleigh Blankenship (135) both went 3-1.
Williamsburg-Solon Dual
WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg boys’ wrestling team stayed undefeated in duals (7-0) on the season as they rolled past Solon at home Thursday night.
The Raiders won 10 of 14 matches, five by fall.
The girls’ team also dueled against Solon. The team fell 42-33 to the Spartans.
New London Quad
NEW LONDON — The Montezuma boys’ wrestling team went 3-0 at New London Thursday, defeating Lone Tree, New London and Wapello.
The Braves had several wrestlers finish 3-0 on the evening.
Knoxville Quad
KNOXVILLE — The BGM boys’ wrestling team defeated Baxter 36-27 and fell to Knoxville 58-23 Thursday night.
At 157 pounds, Brock York won both matches by fall.
