With the 2024 election season approaching, Iowa County voters face a critical moment to shape the future of our state. The Democratic Party believes in empowering every individual through thoughtful policies that prioritize people over profits.
Here are three key issues that should drive us to the polls this year.
First, public money should stay in public schools. Iowa's public education system is the foundation of our rural and urban communities, yet it faces challenges from those who want to divert funds to private institutions — with little to no transparency or accountability.
Our children deserve well-funded schools that allow all to thrive, not just the students private schools are willing to accept.
Second, reproductive freedom is under attack. Across the country, we’ve seen attempts to strip away the rights of women to make decisions about their own bodies.
We must stand firm in protecting reproductive health care and ensuring that Iowa women have the autonomy to make the best choices for their families and futures without government interference.
Health care professionals, not politicians in Des Moines, should be helping to make these difficult decisions.
Third, transparency and accountability in government are more important than ever. Iowans deserve leaders who work for them, not [for] special interests.
Republican elected officials, including our current state senator and representative, won't hold public forums or town hall meetings as their predecessors did. Why is that? What are they hiding?
We need to push for open government, responsible spending (not hoarding of money) and honest representation at all levels. By holding elected officials accountable, we can restore trust and ensure that policies are created with the best interests of everyone in mind — not just the wealthy and well-connected.
Your vote this election season is your voice. Let’s use it to protect our schools, defend personal freedoms, and build a stronger, more inclusive Iowa for all.
