Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona.
Where did you graduate?
I graduated in July of 1997 with my post baccalaureate in Elementary Education from Ottawa University in Phoenix, Arizona.
Tell us about your family.
I have been married for 25 years to Darren Vannoy.
We have two sons, Alec, 33, and Weston, 30, who both live in Arizona.
We also have three cats from Abu Dhabi and a dog from our time in China.
Abu Dhabi and China?
From August of 2011 to July of 2022, I had the opportunity to teach in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and in Ningbo, China.
I taught Kindergarten-Grade 3.
During this time I was immersed into the Arabic and Chinese cultures and languages
How did this happen?
Travel and animals have always been a part of my life.
I used to take family vacations with my parents and brother.
This led to a love for travel.
I grew up visiting my grandmother’s farm in Illinois, which is the stem of my love for animals.
What is your motivation/philosophy for teaching?
I want my students know and appreciate the similarities and differences in each other.
The world is full of different cultures and experiences that we should all learn to value and understand.
