WINFIELD — The American Legion Auxiliary local unit #643 prepares to honor military personnel who died in service to their country through Poppies and flags in the coming weeks.
The poppy represents the sacrifice of the veteran. Connecting the visual image of the poppy with the sacrifices made by our veterans has been the goal of the American Legion Auxiliary since the Poppy Program began in 1921.
The local Unit #643 will be distributing poppies from the local banks, May 21-28. On National Poppy Day, May 24, we will be collecting at Caseys and the Post Office. Please wear a poppy to support the Veteran.
American Legion Auxiliary, Winfield, also will be placing flags on Veteran's graves, Wednesday, May 2, at the Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. The Unit would greatly appreciate any volunteers who could help. Meet at the Cemetery at 9 a.m. Notice this is a change of time.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit #643 will meet for its regular meeting at 2 p.m. on May 28, at the Veterans Community Building. Glenda Alvine and Tana Jennings are the committee.
