MT. PLEASANT — American Legion Post #58 in Mt. Pleasant selected Mt. Pleasant Community High School juniors Jonah Zimmer and Elijah Rynders as this year’s representatives to attend the prestigious Iowa Boy’s State program.
As they gear up to send these young men to the program which will teach them more about the democratic process, the American Legion plans to host a chili supper this Saturday, April 20 to continue to providing this opportunity to students.
The supper will run as a freewill meal from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Veteran’s Hall and is open to the public.
According to American Legion member Robin Daniel, all funds received will go toward paying for the boys to spend a week at Boys State.
“Each year our American Legion Post #58 here in Mt. Pleasant interviews high school boys to go to this annual event where they learn in great detail how our democratic form of government works,” Daniel said. “We take great pride in working with our local school and to provide this continued opportunity to young boys.”
