MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Main Street Art Center cancels classes and asks artists to pick up their artwork in light of the center shutting their doors permanently March 24 at 5 p.m.
Shortly before noon, March 10 the art center posted the cancellation of Gin Lammert’s upcoming class at the center.
“Refunds have been posted to everyone’s accounts,” the announcement read.
A short time later the center announced they would shut their doors only two weeks later.
“It is with tremendous sadness we announce that the Mount Pleasant Mian Street Art Center will be permanently closing for business at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24,” the announcement stated.
According to Lorrilee Miller, the center will close their doors following her decision to step down as the center’s director.
Through conversations with the center’s board, Miller says that they discussed different options to keep the center open, but made the decision to close, at this time.
“There’s not enough income to support the center this time and not enough staff support to run the place,” she said.
The center thanked the community for their support and encouraged patrons to catch the last week of the All Members Show currently displayed.
Art from regional and local artists is still available for purchase, at this time, though, Miller said many artists are picking up their work.
According to the announcement, the center must vacate the building in downtown Mt. Pleasant by March 31.
“Artists are encouraged to pick up their work as soon as possible,” they stated in their announcement.
Designated pickup times for art work include Saturday March 25 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday March 27 by appointment, Tuesday through Thursday March 28-30 from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m., or Friday March 31 by appointment.

Mt. Pleasant Main Street Art Center opened their doors November 2021 and hit the ground running.
They hosted a number of exhibits of local and regional artists throughout their short time on the Mt. Pleasant Downtown square.
The community came to know the center as a participant in Main Street Mt. Pleasant events, a venue for art classes, and a place to purchase local artwork.
