MT. PLEASANT — The Henry County Board of Supervisors focused on bonds and the election this past Tuesday at the Board of Supervisors meeting.
In March the Board of Supervisors approved issuing $600,000 in general obligation capital loan notes to pay for three new storage structures for the road department.
“The three-year bond that we had before is up at the end of June,” County Auditor Shelly Barber said at the time of approval. “We’re just reissuing another one to build (the department’s) salt shed, cold storage shed and semi-truck shed. Our last one was $675,000.”
Barber previously explained that the new notes will only take the place of the expiring ones, so there will be no additional property tax levy.
The county commonly carries a three-year note for capital projects such as these.
A packet will be sent out to local banks beginning June 17.
Banks will submit proposed rates by June 23, and bids will be awarded by June 28.
The board is set to issue resolution on the bids July 7 and by July 20 the bonds will be closed and transfer of money will occur.
In addition to bonds discussion, the board canvassed votes from the primary elections.
According to Barber, all of the vote numbers remained the same as originally reported and can be found on the county website.
This was the first election after the new redistricting, but Barber said that it went well overall.
“There were a few complaints but not many,” she said.
Voters will be reminded of polling locations prior to the next election this fall via the same sort of post cards previously delivered.
According to Barber, the county has been quiet, and after the election, it is a welcome change in pace.
