At its January meeting in Mt. Pleasant, President of the Big Creek Tractor Club, Bruce Moore, and secretary Earl Swigart, presented the Wayland area FFA with a $200 donation. Present to accept the donation were Braxton Stauffer, Layke Millspaugh, Kyler Rugg, all officers of the chapter.
The Tractor Club continued this trend at their February meeting. The club presented the Mt. Pleasant FFA Chapter with its own $200 donation. This is, according to treasurer Ed Seggersen, part of an initiative to support farm education in Henry County. Next, they will donate to Winfield and New London chapters.
The Big Creek Tractor Club strives to preserve vintage farm equipment, organize tractor rides, and to provide educational material and emphasize safety for owners and the public . Existing since 2007, they have 45 paid members, and are sponsored by 35 local businesses. These funds are often donated to similarly-aligned groups, such as the aforementioned FFA.
In addition to their philanthropic activities, the club frequents tractor shows. Each year, they hold a soup supper, a picnic at East Lake Park, and long tractor rides. They have been known to go as far afield as the Hope Lutheran Church in Brighton, and the town of Denmark.
The group holds its meetings at the Open Bible Church, at 306 N. Cherry St. in Mt. Pleasant, every third Thursday of the month. This month, that means March 19.
