MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant Community School District is partnering with Henry County Health Center and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital to educate young bicyclists in the Mt. Pleasant Community this month with assistance from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
The educational efforts will begin Friday, May 10 as staff from the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital present at an assembly for MPCSD students from kindergarten through second grade in each school.
Children are encouraged to bring their bikes to host the Mt. Pleasant Community Bike Rodeo at Maple Leaf Athletic Complex from 10 a.m.- noon the next day, Saturday, May 11 for fun and educational activities.
“This is an exciting event for our kids and our community as we prepare for the arrival of RAGBRAI this summer,” MPCSD Nurse Jennifer Striegel said.
The rodeo will include local bike shops offering general bike maintenance and members of the University of Iowa RAGBRAI team will help young riders with proper helmet fittings. Additionally, attendees can ride two different courses to practice their safe riding. Children also will have the opportunity to win a free bike just for participating in the rodeo.
Parents or guardians must attend with children.
