WAYLAND — While official numbers are not yet available, the Wayland Fire Department says they saw a record-breaking night of support at the annual pancake supper Nov. 9.
With the purchase a of “new to them” firetruck right around the corner in 2025, the department chose to ramp up their fundraising this year with a raffle to accompany the annual pancake supper. To get their new wheels, they offered the public an opportunity to win a set of wheels.
Even before members of the community generously gave at the pancake supper, they opened their wallets for the opportunity to win a Can-Am Commander side-by-side vehicle in a raffle. The department sold 200 tickets at $200 apiece in this raffle that raised many additional funds toward their new firetruck. While sales would have stayed open until Nov. 8, by the morning of Oct. 29 it was announced that all tickets were sold out.
So, as the community gathered in the Wayland Fire Station Nov. 9 to enjoy the traditional tasty dinner of pancake, eggs, and sausage, which many raved about the following day, Heath Boone was drawn as the raffle winner.
“On behalf of the Wayland Fire Department they would like to express their thanks and gratitude for a record-breaking night,” Liz Stauffer, wife of Firefighter Josh Stauffer, posted following the dinner. “Thank you to all the kids and spouses that helped with delivery, serving, cleanup, and running. They wouldn't be where they are without the support of the community. Thank you everyone.”
