MT. PLEASANT — For the duration of May and June, Mt. Pleasant Arts IMPACT’s Gallery, located in the Mt. Pleasant Public Library, will channel the liveliness of spring with its latest artist display featuring the colorful and whimsical nature inspired work of painter and illustrator Arrin Kartel.
Burlington native Kartel always dreamed of becoming a full-time, independent, working artist. Her passion for creating art began in her childhood and greatly influenced her career path in adulthood.
Less than three years after graduation, she established Kartel Art where she fulfills her dream as a full-time artist. Graduating from Southeastern Community College in May 2015, Kartel didn’t miss a beat as she dove into graphic and web designs. Working independently as an artist, Kartel took the leap to work more independently in this design as she continued her 10-year career in this field. In addition to creating artwork and designing, Kartel’s resume also includes illustrating professionally.
As she makes her way in life pursuing her passion, she continues to expand her creative mediums including acrylic paint, oil paint, wax pastels, oil pastels, printmaking, ceramics, and digital illustration. Most recently, she added a fun “side project” of creating fan-art stickers which she sells on Etsy along with illustration prints, bookmarks, and other artwork.
Much like the art she sells through her Etsy shop, Kartel’s art displayed at the Mt. Pleasant Arts IMPACT Gallery displays her works inspired by “plants and nature, warm nostalgic feelings, prints and patterns,” much like her website describes her overall artistic aesthetic.
According to Arts IMPACT, Kartel “specializes in painting colorful, loosely painted landscapes and painterly still life scenes. As an illustrator, she produces imaginative images that are fun and lighthearted.”
This whimsical and colorful display will remain open and free for viewing during normal library business hours through the month of June as the latest installment to the Mt. Pleasant Arts IMPACT Mini Gallery. Arts IMPACT sponsors this gallery as an outreach to the residents of Henry County to introduce the public to the many talented artists in the Southeast Iowa area. If interested in purchasing work from Kartel or any other artists displayed at the Mini Gallery, reach out to the artist directly.
