WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union senior class showed off their unique personalities and paid homage to their bright futures in fun formal attire at the grand march.
WMU started their “Throw Back” prom with a grand march for the community in the school’s gymnasium before heading out to Airport Road Vineyard and Winery for a night of making memories with dancing, laughing, and fun.
The gym contained brightly colored balloon arches, twinkling lights, and adoring friends and family in the audience.
The Emcee for the grand march sat behind the cut out of a retro VolksWagon beetle and students entered the walkway next to a sign with musical notes and Walkman Cassette Player. Near one doorway, another themed prom decoration contained the image of a Rubik’s Cube.
Because many of these seniors already experienced prom last year, the class felt the freedom to embrace current trends and show off their personalities in bright colored and sparkly formal attire for the evening.
“I wanted to stand out for senior year,” Emma Richardson said alongside her Alli Humphreys.
Both wore form-fitting pink dresses, but each carefully picked their gown according to their personality.
“Our class really does like to stand out, and it is kind of a trend,” Senior Kayreana Sharar said in her vibrant yellow gown.
Dressed in a full skirt with sequins, and floral details, Sharar received many compliments and comparisons to the Disney Princess Belle not only at WMU’s grand march, but at New London’s, last weekend, too.
Her date Boden Pickle, from New London, complimented Sharar’s dress with his own standout tux choices.
Pickle wore a black and white floral print tuxedo jacket with a yellow pocket square.
Another senior, Keetyn Townsley, dressed in beautiful pink with her date Cam Buffington, a junior.
Buffington also pulled into his navy tuxedo with a pink vest and tie.
“I knew bright colors were popular this year,” Townsley said.
Some juniors like Audie Gipple even got in on the unofficial bright colored theme.
“It seems like it is just kind of the trend, this year,” Gipple said.
Another junior, Aurey Meeker said she did not even consider a dress without sparkles, but that didn’t stop her from trying on many dresses.
“I love sparkles,” Meeker said.
After the dance, the students changed into clothes with less of a statement and more focused on comfort as they returned to WMU school for after prom.
