Businesses honored with nominations

MT. PLEASANT — Tuesday, Your Dream Home Furniture & Floors and KILJ Radio celebrated their nominations for the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.

Your Dream Home Furniture & Floors Owner Heather Leichty wore a broad smile as she welcomed guests into the store for coffee cake, egg bake, coffee, and juice to celebrate.

“There are so many wonderful people,” Chamber Executive Vice President Rachel Lindeen commented as they took their places for a photo op. “Thank you for coming!”

As Leichty and her supporters piled into a room display, the group acted like a family giggling and cracking jokes.

“We just love working with all of you guys,” Leichty said. “We’re just kind of a community family.”

According to Leichty, Your Dream Home offers furniture, floors, mattresses, area rugs, and other home furnishings, and they’re grateful to be part of the supportive community of Mt. Pleasant.

“And they offer delivery!” KILJ Sales and General Manager Kadie Johannson added. “And they take away your old stuff!”

Later that afternoon Johannson and KILJ Owner Paul Dennison welcomed guests to the station as they celebrated their nomination with Ice Cream Sundaes.

“We’re honored to be a finalist among some great businesses here in Mt. Pleasant,” Johannson commented.

KILJ has served Southeast Iowa with radio news, sports, weather, and community information since 1970.

The Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce utilizes Small Business Week each year to highlight nominated businesses and thank those that offer these building blocks for the community.

According to the chamber, “Small businesses are a key component to making Mount Pleasant and all of Henry County a great place to live and work.”

After a week of celebration the nominations, the chamber will announce the winning nomination at the Small Business of the Year Awards Breakfast on Friday, May 5 at 8 a.m. in the Union Block Building.
