MT. PLEASANT — The Kiwanis invite the public to the Aviation Celebration, Fly-In and Breakfast, Saturday, May 13 at the Mt. Pleasant Airport Saturday, from 7:30-11 a.m.
A breakfast of pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee will raise funds to benefit local youths with a freewill donation beginning at 7:30 a.m.
At 9 a.m. Young Eagles First Flights will begin free discovery flights for children 8-17 years old.
Children that take part in the program will enjoy a short flight around the area and earn a Young Eagles certificate for their flight.
In addition to a bird’s-eye view of the Mt. Pleasant area, riders will also learn about safety checks, how the plane operates, and the passion of their pilot.
The U.S. Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) created the Young Eagles program to give children an opportunity to get connected with experienced pilots and rides in small engine planes to ignite a passion for aviation in local youth.
EAA has offered these experiences throughout the United States for over 30 years to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.
For those under eight and over 17, the Aviation Celebration will offer various aircraft displays to explore, airplane photo opportunities, and a chance to see a medivac helicopter.
