SWEDESBURG — As the days of summer continue to grow, the Swedish American Museum and Historical Society gear up to present their annual Midsommar Celebration this Friday, June 21 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall in Swedesburg.
While Midsommar traditionally marks the end of very long dark winter days in and the beginning of days filled with up to 20 hours of sunlight in Northern Sweden, Midsommar celebrations in communities like Swedesburg offer an opportunity to simply connect with Swedish heritage, family, and friends.
The Swedesburg celebration will begin with a processional which will honor the John A. Alvine family followed by dancing around the Majstang (Maypole). The celebration also will include Swedish folk music by the Norwegian Bachelor Farmers followed by an ice cream social.
Those visiting Swedesburg to celebrate Midsommar Friday are encouraged to bring a lawn chair if they intend to sit outside to enjoy the festivities.
