MT. PLEASANT — Sunday, May 8 mothers across the country will be celebrated and this is a friendly reminder to get your plans ready.
When a child gets hurt they will accept help from their dads, however, when mom shows up there is often nothing more they rather have than their mothers’ healing kisses and compassion.
“One Mother’s Day I was preaching about the attributes of God,” said Pastor Steve English of Mt. Pleasant. “RACHAMIM was the attribute for that sermon, and it is the Hebrew plural for wombs and loving, compassionate kindness.”
English sat at a table in the Coffee Depot and spoke about how he had seen this different kind of compassionate love from mothers.
“[My wife] sacrifices her own desires so her children’s dreams and wishes can be fulfilled,” English said.
His own mother was always there when he needed someone to pray for him, and he thinks that the special thing about moms is that they “love you, warts and all.”
The sentiment was very similar from U.S. Army veteran Andrew Weisinger.
Russell said that army moms are just different, and many men and women in the military go through deployments just wanting their moms.
“You don’t have to tell them everything because they’re your mom and they just know,” Wisinger said of why having a mom around in the tough times is so special.
Marje Peterson, who grew up in Winfield, knows a thing or two about how special moms are.
Peterson is a mother of three with nine grandchildren, but she spoke fondly of her mother Evelyn Anderson.
“She was the greatest woman on the face of the Earth,” Peterson said, “People used to call her the Dick Clark of Winfield because she never aged.”
While May might be full with May Day, graduations, proms, and spring activities, do not get distracted from celebrating the women who show loving compassionate kindness daily.
Peterson sees people come into the jewelry store she works in all week and even the day before Mother’s Day, so there still is plenty of time to get a gift, plan a day, or make a reminder to give that special woman in your life a call this Sunday.
What wonderful things had the world ought to know about your mother?
