WINFIELD — Winfield-Mt. Union schools have lined up a variety of events for the coming weeks, offering opportunities for students, parents, and community members to get involved and support the school district.
Elementary Fundraiser: Help WMU Win a Book Vending Machine!
WMU elementary students and families can participate in a fundraiser for materials that enhance children’s education. Parents should check their child’s backpack for detailed fundraiser information.
By signing up through SchoolStore.net using the school ID 178635, families can invite friends and relatives to shop online and earn funds for WMU. Using this link anyone can shop at over 300 major merchants like Walmart, Kohls, Best Buy, Disney, and others while WMU earns a percentage for each sale.
"With your help, we can win a book vending machine for our school!" read a recent post on the WMU Wolves Facebook page. Every email sent as part of the fundraiser enters participants into a drawing to win exciting prizes such as a PlayStation 5. The campaign operates 100% online, eliminating the need for door-to-door sales and encouraging participation through a prize-based system.
WMU Lil' Wolves Dance Clinic Performance
Young dancers from WMU and Morning Sun, ages 4-11, have trained during the recent WMU Lil' Wolves Dance Clinic. They will showcase their skills in a special performance during the WMU varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball games on Friday, Jan. 24. Families and fans should attend and cheer on these young performers as they demonstrate their newfound dance moves.
WMU Winter Concert
Music lovers should not miss the upcoming WMU Winter Concert, where students from prekindergarten through 12th grade will perform. The concert happens on Monday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. This combined event showcases the diverse musical talents of WMU students, bringing the community together to celebrate their hard work and dedication.
Community Book Study with Mrs. Wahls
WMU invites community members to a book study led by Elementary Principal and new Superintendent Karinda Wahls. The featured book, The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, explores the rising rates of anxiety and depression among teens, examining the potential link to increased social media and smartphone use.
The book study helps parents, educators, and community members understand the factors contributing to youth anxiety and explore practical strategies to support healthy phone habits.
“Our school district is committed to fostering a healthy learning environment for all students,” a flyer for the study explains. “To align with this goal, new cellphone expectations were implemented this year.”
This book study will allow for discussions to learn more about supporting this change and exploring the reasoning behind it.
The sessions take place in the WMU library on the following dates:
Participants can join by scanning the QR code on the informational flyer to RSVP and ordering a copy of the book in advance. For more information reach out the WMU offices.
