MT. PLEASANT — Adults and children alike enjoyed imaginative and creative play at the Mt. Pleasant Public Library’s Children’s Discovery Center grand opening, Saturday following a ribbon cutting with the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce.
Upon entering the colorful Discovery Center, children young and old let their imaginations lead the charge as they discovered opportunities to create buildings, music, and imaginative scenarios.
Kathy Casteel and her grandson Noah Zaiontz enjoyed playing with the pretend kitchen center.
“No peppers on mine,” Castell told her grandson as he made pretend pizza. “They’re too spicy!”
Hattie Rowan and her 1-year-old Jolie spend a majority of their time at a magnetic shape wall.
“She’s been stuck to this,” Hattie said with a smile as she offered Jolie another shape.
Just a few feet away, Nick Maynard and Adrian Rubey created an epic fort with their sons Addison Maynard and Landon Rubey.
“I’m building with my friend Addy,” Landon declared as he hunted for additional pieces for their fort.
“I helped Owen [his brother] discover stuff,” Landon said as he pointed out the gear and crank contraption in the center. “I helped Addy also discover those crank things.”
Landon also commented on how the center offers “dress up suits,” and “a shot, but it only vibrates.”
Two 6-year-old girls, Myla Martin and Remi Manning created music in another room of the center during the grand opening.
“The drums are my favorite,” Remi said.
The center changed a few things from their soft opening such as adding more musical instruments and opening the upper elementary room designed for third-fifth grade students.
Spring and summer hours for the Discover Center:
