Opportunities to celebrate the season

MT. PLEASANT—As the Christmas seasons continues, the Henry County community offers a variety of opportunities to celebrate the holidays, this weekend.
Wayland State Bank begins the weekend with their annual open house 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday.
Throughout the day, they will offer opportunities to win prizes along with food and drinks to celebrate the season.
Saturday, Dec. 3, youngsters have the opportunity to check off their holiday shopping lists.
From 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Mt. Pleasant Community PTA will host the Kids’ Christmas Event at the Mt. Pleasant Middle School.
The event is open to students from preschool through sixth grade. All gifts are $10 or less and students may spend up to $50 total.
The New London Holiday Stroll committee will host their Let Your Littles Christmas Shop event Saturday, as well.
They invite children in kindergarten through sixth grade to shop from noon-5 p.m. at Clark Elementary in New London.
Gifts will range from $.25 to $5 and students may spend up to $20 at the shop.
Both shopping events invite parents to browse a bake sale while their littles shop.
Opportunities for older shoppers are available at the Women of the Moose Holiday Bazaar and Mt. Pleasant Christian School’s Christmas Market, Saturday, also.
The women of the Moose Holiday Bazaar will run 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge.
Lunch will be available while guests shop the Bazaar and Holiday gift sale.
Mt. Pleasant Christian’s Christmas Market will offer a bake sale, breakfast and lunch concessions, door prizes, and a variety of vendors to shoppers 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

While the many will enjoy shopping, Saturday, others might be more interested in a visit with the big man himself.
Santa Claus will visit Winfield public library, Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. to hear Christmas wishes and pose for photos.
Two musical events are available in Mt. Pleasant both Saturday and Sunday, this weekend.
Enjoy music at the Iowa Wesleyan Lessons and Carols or Peace has Come Christmas at Calvary Baptist Church either Dec. 3 or 4.
Doors for the Lessons and Carols opens at 6:15 and the program will begin at 7 p.m.
This event will consist of music from the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, IW Music Department choirs, Mt. pleasant Chorale and Chamber Orchestra, Primae Voces, IW Trombones, IW Jazz Combo, and organ music provided by Carl Moehlman.
The audience will also receive opportunities to join in singing throughout the program.
Calvary’s Peace Has Come Cantata will begin at 6:30 p.m. both days.
“This year, the Christmas Cantata is entitled ‘Peace Has Come,’ and that’s who Jesus is, the Prince of Peace,” Calvary Senior Pastor Zach Fischer said.
A dessert reception will follow the cantata each night.
