City honors firefighters’ years of service

MT. PLEASANT — During Wednesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Steve Brimhall honored three Mt. Pleasant Firefighters.

“The Mayor and City Council wish to recognize those who have honorably and with loyalty devoted a significant portion of their lives to public service,” Brimhall read from a resolution. “ … wish to express their gratitude and appreciation to those who have honorably serviced by public by providing volunteer services of various nature to the city of Mt. Pleasant and citizens thereof.”

“Thereas, Jeffery L. Beavers for his 45 years of his dedicated loyal reliable service with the volunteer fire department,” he read.

“And I didn’t misstate. That is 45 years,” Brimhall added.

In his 45 years, Beavers rose to the rank of assistant chief.

Beavers will retire at the end of this calendar year.

“The Mayor and City Council of the City of Mt. Pleasant do recognize, honor, and express gratitude and appreciation to Nicholas for 10 years of dedicated and loyal services to the city of Mt. Pleasant,” Brimhall read and recognized Nicholas Ettinger.

Reading a very similar resolution, the Mayor recognized Kevin Elmore’s service.

“The Mayor and City Council do congratulate, honor, and thank [Elmore] for five years of service with Mt. Pleasant,” Brimhall read.

Following a roll call to approve the last resolution, Brimhall added his own gratitudes.

“Thank you very, very much we appreciate it,” he said.

“Hopefully, Drew [Schumacher] will let you drive the fire truck,” Brimhall joked and received laughter from those in attendance.

“It has been a challenge, but rewarding to help the community in some of their worst times,” Ettinger said. “We get to be the guys that show up and help them when they are facing some of their worst days ever.”

Both Ettinger and Elmore look forward to continuing to serve the Mt. Pleasant community.
