WINFIELD — Winfield Historical Society and Museum will host an Iowa Civil War Show and Tell presentation by Michael Huston Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Veteran’s Building.
This presentation will include photos, slides, and information specifically about Iowa soldiers in the Civil War with an emphasis on Henry County soldiers from Huston.
Armed with a zealous desire to ensure historic accuracy, Huston has acquired a large collection of Civil War images that he enjoys sharing with others in what he hopes is a fun and exciting way.
“It will be a very informative program,” Museum Board President Judy Rawson said. “He has an extensive collection.”
She further stated that she believed Huston would bring some new images with him which he recently received from Upper Iowa University.
According to Rawson, the Winfield Historic Society and Museum also will bring items from the museum to share during this time.
“It’ll be interesting for high schoolers all the way to people through 100 years old,” she said. “His enthusiasm for the subject really comes across.”
Following the event, attendees are invited to mingle and enjoy refreshment.
While there is not a charge to attend the program, Rawson says they will take a freewill donation to go toward the Winfield Museum Building Renovation Project.
“We’re really anxious to work further on the space we’re renovating,” Rawson said and explained that the museum would greatly benefit from the bigger space’s competition.
“We will have a sign right out front, so you own to be able to miss it,” she said. “Come out and support the Winfield Museum and Historical Society.”
