MT. PLEASANT — Earlier this month, Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a proclamation recognizing October as Manufacturing Month.
Iowans are encouraged to discover products made in Iowa, attend events and visit manufacturers in their community.
According to the Chamber, “Manufacturing Month encourages careers in this important sector by spurring companies and educational institutions across the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers, and community leaders.”
The Chamber also states that this month if an opportunity for manufacturers to come together to address their challenges.
In celebration, the Chamber will hand out 500 Halloween job bags to children Oct. 27 at the Witch Way to Main event downtown.
That same day, Cornerstone Building Products will host over 200 students, other invited elected officials and special guests for a manufacturing celebration.
Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facilities and experience hands-on how products are made in the Mt. Pleasant location.
The celebratory event also will include food and drinks.
MFG Day, an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute and supported by the National Association of Manufacturers, has been celebrated on the first Friday of October since 2012.
According to Cornerstone, events like these provide an opportunity to showcase modern manufacturing careers to the next generation of workers.
Mt. Pleasant is one of seven locations throughout the country where Cornerstone will host one of these events.
