WINFIELD — After a week of building school spirit, Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves unfortunately lost their homecoming football game to Montezuma 55 to 14. In spite of defeat, school spirit still soared as the student body entered the homecoming dance following the game.
With dress up days like Pajama Day, Celebrity/Character Day, Class Color Day, 80/90s Day, and School Spirit Day, the Wolves’ spirits were certainly high enough to handle the loss.
The Homecoming Parade Wednesday night did a lot to add to the celebrations for the week thanks to fire departments, City of Winfield, TTT, various WMU teams, and local businesses showing up with plenty of cheer and candy. The community eagerly lined the streets as student floats, trucks, and golf carts made their way through town celebrating their pride in their school.
Friday, well before hitting the football field, Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center welcomed WMU students for a mini tailgate for high-five Friday. The center greeted students with a walkway lined in chalked paw prints, encouraging signs, and snacks as residents and staff high-fived the student beaming with WMU Wolves pride.
Before the special high-five Friday came to an end, elementary students were invited to run through a banner just like high school football players have been known to crash through.
While the Wolves may not have won the football field, they certainly won with community support and participation in yet another fun-filled homecoming week.
