MT. PLEASANT — As the temperatures begin to rise and snow disappears until next year, Mayor Steve Brimhall reminds Mt. Pleasant residents to practice patience with construction season.
“We had a preconstruction meeting for the project that will be starting here in the next few weeks with Aldrin and Henry Street,” Director of Public Works Rick Mullin said. “So the construction season for streets is open and started.”
“Aldrin of course is going to be first and it's a pretty simple project, so to speak,” Brimhall added. “They thought that Henry might start a couple of months after that and it's going to be based on KNS doing gas lines.”
At the beginning of the year the council approved the resolution for pavement and drainage replacement for North Aldrin Drive from West Vine to West Armstrong for a bid of $164,777.
At that time, they also approved a similar resolution for West Henry Street just west of Marion Street to Broadway Street with a bid of $816,777.
“They've made a mess of Henry Street already and then the utilities are going to come in here and make a further mess of it by putting new stuff in there so that Henry Street is going to be a mess for a long time. So, I hope people realize that.” Brimhall said. “But the finished product will be much better what is there at the present time. So, hopefully people will have patience with that project.”
“Also, they're going to be when they can get to it, as soon as the weather breaks, they'll be paving Bluegrass Road,” he said. “Basically all the work is done out there except for paving. That will be finished. And that was kind of a project that overlapped a year, and we normally don't have those, but this year we did. And so that's going to be finished up.”
With the project on Bluegrass Road finishing, Brimhall is hopeful to get a new business into the previous West Liberty Foods building.
“Hopefully somebody is looking at that,” Brimhall said. “At least we hear rumor people or somebody's looking at that. So hopefully they buy it.”
