CRAWFORDSVILLE — Fun will continue after Fourth of July festivities as the Crawfordsville Community Club invites the public to celebrate Crawfordsville Fun Days July 5-6.
In small towns like Crawfordsville, communities run the risk of not connecting as they become “bedroom communities” where people only return to their homes to sleep and eat. With annual events like Crawfordsville Fun Days, however, that sense of community can be restored as people come together to have fun and enjoy one another’s company.
This year’s Fun Days will kick off with a cornhole or bags tournament from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, July 5. All are welcome to join in the tournament and winners will walk away with a 50/50 prize.
Those playing or watching the tournament can also enjoy food from El Gringo Loco which will sell tasty dinner options throughout.
A silent auction also will start off with the beginning of the Fun Days. The auction, hosted by Crawfordsville Community Club, will raise funds for Joey Hochstetler of 4H Wood Products who was recently diagnosed with cancer. These funds will go toward needed house repairs for the family.
The silent auction will open Friday at 5 p.m. and close Saturday at 1 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.
Donations for the auction will be accepted through July 5. To make a donation contact Karen Dennler at 9319) 330-9985 or Terry McElhinney at 9319) 750-2908. Some current donations include a family fame night basket valued at $85 and Rainy-Day Smores basket values at $53 from Kelly Lucas, a 82x65 quilt from Joyce and Norman Schrock, and a Sinclair Tractor toy from Sinclair Tractor.
Fun Days will continue bright and early Saturday, July 6 with a Biscuit and Gravy breakfast at the Crawfordsville Fire Department served by the men and women of the fire department from 6-9 a.m. The morning also will include a Car, Truck, Tractor, and Garden Tractor show across the street from the fire department from 7 a.m.-noon.
Lineup for the 10 a.m. Fun Days parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the school. After parade-goers get their fill of tossed goodies, the Crawfordsville Fire Department will host the Firemen’s Water Fights with double elimination at 10:45 a.m. in front of the station.
Last year the fire department introduced a traveling trophy for the Firemen’s Water Fights. With representatives from eight fire departments duking it out last year, Crawfordsville Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Collins was happy to have his department’s name the fist on the trophy and hopes to hold onto it again this year.
While enjoying the morning festivities, Fun Day attendees can get their caffeine and sweet fixes by visiting JT Sips and DeLovely’s Delicious Mini Donuts who will set up shop near the fire station from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
As the festivities move into the afternoon Saturday Fun Days participants can get their faces painted with Face Art by Brandi, enjoy pony rides from Windy Acres Stables, or support the local Lions Club as they grab lunch all from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The afternoon also will include an official OHANA Pedal Pullers kids pedal pull with sign up at 11:30 a.m. and the pull beginning at noon.
Just as it seems like the fun is coming to an end, the Crawfordsville Community Club has added a new event to this year’s Fun Days. A Slow Tractor/Vehicle race will kick off at 1 p.m. Race participants will put their vehicle or tractor to the test as they “race” to see who can drive the slowest without touching the brakes or clutch and cross the finish line last.
