WINFIELD — Crooked Creek FFA has been busy learning and growing since FFA Week in 2023.
In June three members attended the District Livestock Judging contest and earned a seventh-place finish in the District.
In July and August, the chapter had six members show swine, one showed sheep, and one member showed goats at county fairs. Then five members headed off to the Iowa State Fair with their pigs and one member went with their sheep.
Once school resumed, the Intro to Agriculture and Natural Resources classes attended the Subdistrict Soils Contest near Wapello. A small group of students also attended the Iowa Pork Producers’ Youth Swine Judging Contest and the team tied for fifth place in the Senior Division.
On Feb. 12, a group of members attended subdistrict contests held at Van Buren schools. Crooked Creek FFA had members competed in AG Broadcasting, Job Interview, Individual AG Sales, Individual Welding, Chapter Test, and Discovery Test.
During FFA Week the chapter has planned daily trivia questions in the school announcements for students to participate in as well as putting on a small assembly on Wednesday. Member also will participate in high-five Friday with the elementary students and host a free will donation community breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Yet this year after FFA week the Crooked Creek FFA chapter will send members to District Convention at Louisa-Muscatine Schools and State Convention held in Ames.
The chapter will likely have another busy summer with plans to again participate in the District Livestock Judging Contest held in June, county fairs, and the Iowa State Fair with a number of livestock projects.
