WINFIELD — Since last year’s FFA Week, Crooked Creek FFA has kept busy competing, growing, and participating in their neighborhoods, county, and the state.
In June Crooked Creek team competed in the District Livestock Judging Contest at Kirkwood Community College. The team placed fifth overall in the Southeast East FFA district.
That same week, the chapter officer team, which include President Katie Miller, Vice President Beatrice Anderson, Treasurer Gabe Cummings, Secretary Kaelyn Townsley, Reporter Abigail Loyd, and Sentinel Quin Smith, attended the Chapter Officer Leadership Training at North Scott schools.
In July, the Henry County Fair showcased Crook Creek’s participation with seven exhibitors in swine shows, one exhibitor in beef cattle shows, and two exhibitors in meat goat shows.
In August, the chapter headed to the Iowa State Fair with seven swine exhibitors, 1 beef cattle exhibitor, and a photography exhibitor. All did well with their projects while at the Iowa State Fair.
After returning to Winfield and starting school the Livestock Judging Team headed to Ames for the State Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event. The team placed 27th out of the 50 teams in attendance that day.
In November, a group of students attended the Youth Swine Judging Contest at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. They judged some classes of pigs and then received results and explanations.
In December, two members attended the Ignite and Amplify Leadership Conferences in Ankeny, Iowa, where they attended a full day of workshops and sessions.
Upcoming events for the chapter include one member traveling to District Officer Interviews as she runs for the district office. The chapter also will host FFA week activities at the school, where the FFA will host dress-up days, Ag Olympics, and mini-contests for other students to try.
On Feb. 17, a handful of members will travel to Danville to compete in contests at the Subdistrict Conference. Then, on March 1, a group of members will travel to North Scott Schools for the District Conference, where a business session and contests will be held. In April, a portion of the membership will travel to Ames, Iowa for the State Leadership Conference and the contests, business session, and general sessions that will occur during the multiple day event.
